PCoIP connections fail with VMware vSphere 4 update 2

Posted on June 16th, 2010 in Announcement, Tips, Virtualization | No Comments »

There are cases reported the PCoIP connections failed right after the VMtools upgrade which performed after the vSphere 4 update 2.

Below are the symptoms

  • Connections to virtual desktops using PCoIP fail
  • You are no longer able to connect to virtual desktops using PCoIP
  • You have recently updated VMware Tools
For example, you have installed ESX 4.0 Update 2, which updates VMware Tools, and you are no longer able to connect to virtual desktops using PCoIP.
If you are running VMWare View 4 with PCoIP, VMware strongly recommend not to perform the update 2 upgrade now until the problem been fixed. You can read the full Knowledge base article from here.

VMware vSphere 4 Bundle with Novell SUSE Linux

Posted on June 16th, 2010 in Announcement, Industry News, Virtualization | No Comments »

I read through 1 of the blogger post and found that the Novell SUSE Linux and VMWare vSphere 4 will be sell as a bundle if you purchase your software licenses for VMware vSphere 4 after June 2010. In order to utilize Novell SUSE Linux, you will require to purchase the software licenses as well as support contract to get the Novell support on both physical and virtual environment. VMware try to bundle the Novell SUSE Linux Software Licenses with the vSphere 4 now, which meant you will be licensed to install Novell SUSE Linux as the VM guest in every CPU that been licensed for VMware vSphere 4.  One key thing that you need to delve into the announcement to find is that the free SLES is unsupported. You get upgrades, but not support. VMware will offer extra-cost support for SLES  in due course.  VMware will also build all its own virtual appliances on SLES as part of the deal.

vExpert 2010 Finally Come

Posted on June 6th, 2010 in Announcement | 5 Comments »

Is a very tired week for me since I had traveled 3 different locations within 2 weeks time for business purposes. This morning, while I woke up and checked my email, I realized John Troyer from VMware, who is the MAN that organize the vExpert 2009 and 2010 nomination had dropped me an email about the vExpert 2010. I am very happy to receive the email from VMware again. I would like to thanks VMware for the vExpert 2010, and also thank you to the people around me which provided all the opportunity during my career which allowed me to blog most of the finding for knowledge sharing purposes. I will definitely continue blog about virtualization, data center solution, cloud computing solutions, and reply more questions in VMTN or VMUG from time to time.
