		<description>Glad to see there are other people out there that prefer the command line to the Update manager.   To me update manager seems like overkill when the command line tools will do the job just as well. 

We follow pretty much the same procedure you detail,  except that we use an NFS mount that is accessible from all of our VMware hosts to apply the patches.
